Wold of Whimsy (First Piece Completed)

Remember this girlie....

Well now she looks like this...

I decided to change the whole color scheme. The red hair didn't work anymore, so I changed it to black and her eyes didn't look right, so I changed them to blue. I am much happier with this color scheme. I am having a great time in this class. I don't know much about working with watercolor paper or Gouache paints, so I really feel like I am learning a lot of new things. I am supposed to finish the piece with beeswax, but I'm not sure I want to put it on. I kind of like her the way she is.

I do need your help though. Can you tell she is pregnant? I don't want to go overboard with the shading. Just enough that you can tell she is preggo. Did I achieve the effect?? I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Shonna

Alice in Wonderland & Carmen's Give Away!

I did this piece for a challenge on Willowing's Ning site. The challenge was to paint a storybook character. I have been wanting to paint "Alice" for a long time, so this was the perfect opportunity. I used watercolor paper, watercolor pencils and artists crayons. I wanted to keep it simple, but I think I might spice it up with some stewart gill paints.

Also, Carmen Torbus (a very talented artist) is having a give away of one of her collage pieces. Check out her work, she is doing very beautiful things on canvas!!

World of Whimsy (Works In Progress)

What is on your desk?? This is what is on mine right now. I am taking a class with the lovely Tamara LaPorte of Willowing. The class is called "World of Whimsy" and I am learning some new techniques. She is teaching us on watercolor paper with wc pencils and Caran D'ache water soluble crayons (I love them soooo much). She is a very nurturing teacher and speaks a lot about learning to make friends with your inner critic (Monster as she calls it). Her style of drawing has given me a new perspective which I really like. She is also featuring 4 members a week which I think is really cool. I happened to be featured this week (come check it out). We are only in week 3, so if you are in the market for taking a "Whimsy" class I highly recommend taking her class.

I have been on Jury Duty!!!!

I was selected for a Jury on Monday and have been going to court everyday this week. We wrapped it up today and found the defendant guilty. It was very interesting being on a Jury and if you are able to do it I would highly recommend NOT trying to get out of it. Anyway, sorry I have been away but I was doing my civil duty.

I have been feeling very uninspired lately as well; just kind of blah!!! I am desperately looking for inspiration and am coming up short everywhere I turn. What happened to my creative mojo??? Is it lost forever??? Ok, I know I am being a little dramatic... I am taking an online class right now and I haven't even started this weeks assignment and it is due on Saturday....AGHHH!!

On a positive note, I have been given another blog award...wait...a TRIPLE blog award. I feel so special!! The giver of this award is Nicole from "A Little Mouse Said". She has a really cool blog and etsy shop, so go check her out. THANKS NICOLE!!!!!

Hopefully the next time I will have some art to share!!! Wish me luck!!!

Peace!!!

MOVE...and the way will open

Here is a new piece I have been working on. I feel like I am beginning to branch out into my own. I have spent the past year learning as much as I possibly can and the natural progression seems to be moving more towards my own distinctive style...I hope. I would appreciate any feedback regarding this.

The piece is done on 9X12 wood and I really wanted her beauty to stand out so I decided to keep my background fairly simple. The saying "Move and the way will open" means so much to me. The word I have adopded as my "mantra" for this year is "MOVE." I no longer am going to sit by and let opportunities pass me by, I am going to move and make it happen. This goes for my personal life as well as my artistic life (yes, they are definitely seperate worlds). I am ready to make a move...
