"Shirin" - New Piece on Wood

This is a new piece I have been slowly putting together for a couple of weeks now. I first drew her in my sketch book and then used colored pencils for shading. I also drew the flowers behind her head. Then I used Matt Medium to glue everything down on the wood. I used acrylic paint to fill in her eyes, hair and lips and also to color the flowers. Then I dripped paint everywhere I could on the wood. I sanded the drips and it gave a really cool peeled paint look that I liked. I added molding paste over a sequin waste stencil and then crackle paste in various areas. Then I finished off the piece with more acrylics, Neocolor II and oil pastels. I might still add a little more blush to her face (I think she needs a little more color in those cheeks).
I was watching "Project Runway" and trying to decide what to name the piece, so I decided to name her "Shirin" after one of the designers. Shirin won this weeks challenge (just in case you missed the show).

Thanks for visiting...

Anyone up for some Julification????

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know by now that I have a little (I mean small and tiny) addiction to online classes. WELL...... I am taking yet another one! I have been wanting to learn how to make my own journals for awhile now and have even bought some book binding supplies to get started. Lo and behold here comes Julie's classes "Art Journal Super Nova I and II." I mean c'mon; I couldn't pass this up. It is perfect for my new endeavor!
We will be making 3 books. in the first class and then in the second class, we will be learning several journaling techniques etc.
I have already taken another class from Julie and she is a great teacher; I highly recommend her classes!!
Go check out Julie's blog to get more information.

Precious Things

Here is another new one from my online class...The title is "Precious Things" which is a song from Tori Amos. The text reads "These precious things. Let them bleed. Let them wash over me..." I had to really let go and get messy on this one. This is difficult for me, but I'm getting better.

Friday I took Jordan Bowling with our playgroup. He had such a great time bowling and hanging out with all of his playgroup buddies.

Serenity

Here is a piece I just finished. I really like the more sophisticated and simplistic style right now. I say right now because my moods always change and tomorrow I could like something totally different.

Very short post...I off to take Jordan bowling with our mom's group (he is soooo excited).

New 16X20 Painting and what we are up to around here!

I was asked by a friend of mine in my mom's group to donate a painting for a silent auction. The proceeds are to go to our local Children's Museum and of course I was happy to oblige. I love the "Children's Museum" and my son and I have gone there many times. I decided to re-create a piece that I did recently (see above blog header). I changed the color scheme and painted it on a larger canvas (16X20). I really hope someone likes it and and will bid on it.

In other news, my son just started swimming lessons and I am so proud of him. He is listening to his instructors like such a big boy and isn't afraid at all. And my daughter just started another year of High School. She is a Junior now...I can't believe how fast it goes. She is all about getting her driver's license and getting a car. Lord help us! This picture of her is before one of the belly dancing classes she took over the summer.

Have a great week everyone!!

More Goddess Journal Pages...

This one will be called "Alone." It was done in graphite and Indigo Blue colored pencil. I still have to write a poem on the black part.

This one is titled "Live in the Moment." This one has a lot of layers as well as stitching.
