Girl With Flower Hat Print is in my Shop!!!

***UPDATE***
I have had some requests to sell prints of this piece, so I have made some and they are now in my shop.

I'm a little behind in my lessons for Misty Mawn (she gives you a lot and really makes you work...isn't that awesome?). I think this portrait is from lesson two. I used a stabilo pencil and titanium white for the face and acrylics for the rest. This girlie has been in my head for awhile. I really like the contrast between the black and white face and then a splash of color around her. This was so fun to create!!!

Heart Your Art- My First Interview

Do you have insecurities about your art? Do you constantly compare your art to others? You aren't alone...believe me! Melissa from "A Magikal Meliss" has started a campaign regarding this very subject. The campaign is called "Heart your Art" and I am her very first interview on the subject. When she contacted me and asked me if she could interview me, I decided that this was a subject that my experiences could possibly help newer artists. So I agreed. Melissa sent me a list of questions and I felt it was extremely important for me to be brutally honest. So if you are interested in reading my interview, you can do so here.

Ok, She's Finished!!

Two posts in one day...Wow! That's a first for me. I finished the background to my "Twiggy" painting and I am very pleased with how it turned out. The background was inspired by the lovely and talented Zorana and her latest video. I have also included my inspiration picture for this portrait.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

I Heart Shiva Oil Paintsticks

The next lesson in Misty's class was to use Shiva Oil Paintsticks....I am in love!! We used our fingers to blend and I just love the results. So soft and subtle. I painted this in my art journal and am currently working on the background. I will probably do more to her face as well. So this is a work in progress...Stay tuned for the finished piece.

New 3/4 Face Drawing

I am having a blast drawing more realistic faces. This drawing is more stylized than my previous drawing, which I feel is more me.
Hope you like it.

Draw what you "see" not what you "know."

Misty Mawn's online class "Drawing and Painting" started last Friday and we are learning to draw what we see not what we know. I picked out a picture in a magazine that had good lights and shadows so I could practice shading with pencil. I had to keep reminding myself to draw what I see (easier said than done). Well here are the results. I don't feel like it "looks" like the girl, but that wasn't the point of the assignment. Next we need to practice 3/4 faces.

GPP Street Team Journal Page!

Since I am starting an Art Journal, I needed some ideas to help me along. So I joined Michelle Ward's GPP Street Team. I love this street team idea. There isn't much pressure, just one entry a month. When you are finished with your page, you post it to your blog and then leave a comment on the team blog with a link to your page. Michelle gives you journal prompt ideas as well as step by step techniques. Great stuff!!!

Here is my first GPP Street Team Journal page "Braving the Elements"...

Give it a try!!
